Vercors

The thrilling region southwest of Grenoble

The Vercors is like a natural twisty racetrack carved right into the heart of the French Prealps: narrow balcony roads cling to the rock face, tunnels devour your light and spit you straight into the next cascade of hairpin bends. Between Gorges de la Bourne, Combe Laval, and Col de la Machine, you'll chase from gorge to gorge, always with views of rugged limestone walls, deep valleys, and high plateaus where eagles circle and marmots whistle. For motorcyclists, the Vercors feels like someone laid out an endless ribbon of curves, rock galleries, and panoramas – never technically extreme, but so spectacular that you won't want to put your helmet back on for a long time at every viewpoint.
